Google Reveals Plans to Invest USD5.8B in Belgium AI, Cloud Tech

(MENAFN) In a major move to strengthen its European digital footprint, Google announced on Wednesday a €5 billion ($5.8 billion) investment to scale up its cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in Belgium over the next two years.

"This includes expansions of our data center campuses in Saint-Ghislain and will add another 300 full time jobs," the US tech giant said in a statement.

The expansion builds on Google’s long-standing presence in the country. Its Saint-Ghislain facility, first launched with an investment of roughly €11 billion, currently employs around 600 people.

As part of its broader initiative, Google revealed new collaborations with Belgian energy companies — including Eneco, Luminus, and Renner — to develop additional onshore wind farms. The partnerships aim to reinforce the national power grid and advance clean energy usage.

The company emphasized that its commitment extends beyond physical infrastructure. Google said it is also equipping local communities with AI tools and resources to prepare them for the evolving digital economy, particularly supporting nonprofits that train low-skilled individuals in practical AI skills.

"This is an extraordinary time for European innovation and its digital and economic future. Google is deepening its roots in Belgium and investing in its residents to unlock significant economic opportunities for the country, helping to ensure it remains a leader in technology and AI," it added.
